Gynecology and neonatology

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Neonatology of Central Asian Medical University was established in September 2025. The department is currently headed by Shoira Tolkunovna Ismoilova. The department was formed as a result of improving the scientific and educational process in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology, as well as redistributing academic disciplines based on specialization. This step reflects the University’s strategic vision for developing a modern medical education system that meets international standards.

At present, the department employs: 1 Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, 2 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 2 Senior Lecturers, 8 Assistant Lecturers, 1 Laboratory Assistant. The department provides students with modern educational programs aimed at comprehensive mastery of fundamental medical knowledge. The main academic fields and disciplines taught include: Obstetrics and Gynecology — the study of the physiology and pathology of the female reproductive system, physiological processes occurring during pregnancy, and the management of pregnancy and childbirth. Neonatology — a medical specialty focused on the care and treatment of newborns, including the diagnosis and management of various conditions arising in the postnatal period.

Training highly qualified physicians in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology. Developing students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with in-depth study of physiological and pathological pregnancy processes and prevention of maternal and neonatal mortality. Enhancing practical understanding of pregnancy and maternal conditions, strengthening clinical skills through simulations, and teaching scientific research methodologies. Developing critical thinking in obstetric and gynecological practice and preparing students to apply evidence-based approaches in patient care. Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system. Protection of maternal and child health during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Development of continuous medical education based on modern medical advances through innovative teaching methods and technologies in line with international educational standards. Conducting scientific research in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology.

1. Development of educational and methodological materials: creation and continuous updating of modern curricula and teaching manuals in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology.
2. Establishment of practical and laboratory training facilities: integration of modern medical technologies, simulation tools, and advanced obstetric and gynecological practices.
3. Enhancement of academic staff’s scientific potential: expanding research activities, studying international experience, and publishing in international scientific journals. 4. Conducting scientific research and disseminating results through publications and organization of scientific conferences. 5. Involvement of students in research activities: organizing scientific projects, conferences, publications, and supervising research on current issues in obstetrics and gynecology.

The department maintains ongoing cooperation with the following foreign higher education institutions: Russian Federation — Academician I. P. Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University; Georgia — Tbilisi State Medical University.

The department actively conducts scientific research in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, focusing on urgent issues related to pregnancy, childbirth, and reproductive health. Advanced scientific approaches are applied to develop obstetric and gynecological practice and to enhance the professional competence of medical specialists. Currently, the department is conducting research on the following topics: “Characteristics of cytokine status of the fetus and newborn during Rh-immunization in pregnant women”, “Diagnostic significance of amniotic fluid metabolites in oligohydramnios”, “The role of echodopplerography in monitoring the effectiveness of labor induction in premature rupture of membranes”, as well as 9 Master’s thesis research projects.

1. Physiological and pathological aspects of pregnancy and childbirth: research on pregnancy development, labor management, prevention of complications, and development of modern monitoring methods for pregnant women and newborns.
2. Pathologies of the reproductive system and treatment methods: scientific studies of gynecological diseases (uterine fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc.) and modern therapeutic approaches.
3. Biotechnologies and modern treatment methods: application of innovative biotechnological approaches, particularly in restoring reproductive health and managing pregnancy.

Currently, modern laboratory classes are implemented across all obstetrics and gynecology modules. The department is equipped with advanced facilities and equipment that meet contemporary standards, including:
• ultrasound diagnostic systems widely used for pregnancy monitoring and diagnosis of gynecological diseases;
• obstetric and gynecological simulators that allow students to practice skills in realistic clinical settings;
• genetic and biotechnological equipment for studying pregnancy processes and assessing reproductive health;
• laparoscopic and hysteroscopic systems for performing modern endoscopic gynecological procedures.
In addition, the academic staff regularly organizes international scientific conferences and seminars aimed at advancing research activities and acquiring new knowledge. Teaching students scientific and practical skills through modern technologies and equipment remains one of the key priorities of the department.
